Lag Shot Swing Trainer Review
There have been some updates since I first wrote this review. If you just want to get to the updates Click Here.
Are you an amateur or a pro golfer? With this review I really wanted to answer the question: Will this Swing Trainer really work for an amateur?
I am an amateur golfer and I mostly golf on Saturdays with my friends. I live in the Northwest so I have a very short golfing season. I was looking for something that I could use at home as well as at the driving range.
I got very excited with I saw the Lag Shot swing trainer. I also had a couple of concerns. I have tried some other swing trainers that made some big claims and I was very underwhelmed and disappointed with the quality and how they worked.
A number of the other swing trainers I tried I was not able to use at the driving range.
Here are some of the questions that I will be answering with this article.
- What makes a good golf swing
- Will it work for women?
- Is there a guarantee?
- Who developed the Lag Shot
- What does the Lag Shot do?
- What all do you get when you order the Lag Shot?
What makes a good golf swing?
The golf swing is complicated…
A short summary of the golf swing is that we have to not only to bring the club head down through the same line time after time; we must bring it down so that the club face is square with the ball at the instant of impact.
The path of the club head is a curve, this means that impact must be timed correctly to an infinitesimal fraction of a second in the sweep of the swing. Also the club head must be accelerating at the moment of impact.
You know when you have hit your shot well because there is a crisp sound and you have accelerated through impact.
Will it work for women?
What if I am a short woman? Will it would work for me?
Women do not swing the golf club as fast as men typically do. I thought that without the speed in the swing that maybe there would not be enough lag.
I am happy to report that after taking my club to the golf driving range that I was able to generate plenty of lag. This golf club has a heavier head than your standard club with a more flexible shaft. As I did my practice swings I could really feel the flex in the club.
Year end 2021 – there is now a lagshot for both women and juniors.
You can see from the image above how much flex there is in the shaft of this club.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, with Lag Shot there is a 30-day money back guarantee. You can even take the club to the range and hit balls and they say on their website :
“You have 30 days to practice indoors with it, hit balls on the range with it, take it out on the course for some practice…whatever.
If you don’t absolutely love it and think it’s the best training aid you’ve ever owned, send it back. There is zero risk on your part!”
Who developed the Lag Shot?
The Lag Shot founder and CEO is Gary Guerrero and this company is based out of Naples Florida.
His goal with the Lag Shot is to help amatuer golfers hit better shots with increased consistency. This in turn will help to lower their scores and of course, have much more fun because theya re playing better.
What does the Lag Shot actually do?
Do you ever feel like practice swings are so easy… Why can’t I swing like that when I am actually taking a shot??
Well, the Lag Shot swing trainer has been engineered to help all golfers improve their tempo, and smooth out their transition from backswing to downswing. It will also help you to build lag effortlessly without feeling “mechanical” or too forced.
What do you get when you order Lag Shot
I was excited to open the box to see what all comes with the Lag Shot.
Each Lag Shot club also comes with a 10-part bonus video instructional series in digital format from 3-Time PGA Teacher of the Year and Founder of Scratch Golf Academy, Adam Bazalgette.
You also get access to the Scratch Golf Academy mobile app. With this app you can easily access not only the Lag Shot training videos but you also get access to addtional warm up videos and practice tools. All of this will help you to improve your swing faster.
I also wrote an article with some chipping drills to help your game.
Conclusion
I highly recommend the Lag Shot Swing Trainer. It is beautifully made and I love that I can hit balls with it. I have also been going through the training videos and getting a lot of value from them as well.

UPDATE #1
My order arrived and I finally got the chance to go by the range to try out my new Lag Shot swing trainers.
I had the Lag Shot driver, 7-iron, and 54 degree wedge. I added my own driver, 7-iron and 54 degree wedge so that I could compare my result before using Lag Shot and after hitting some balls with Lag Shot.

As stated above I had a couple of concerns. I am a female and about 5’2″. My concern was that I would not be able to generate enough lag.
Here is what I found:
The clubs are quite a bit heavier than mine – this is what creates the lag
They are also quite a bit longer than mine and so I had to choke up a bit.

The first thing that I did was hit a few ball with my own clubs just to see how I was hitting the ball that day.
Next I hit a bunch of balls with the Lag Shot swing trainers. I used all 3 Lag Shot clubs and made note of my ball flight and how I was swinging.
One thing that I noticed right off after just a few hits with the Lag Shot was that my ball flight was quite different.
Under normal circumstances I tend to hit a lower ball flight. What this means is that I have a really hard time stopping the ball on the green. I think there are a lot of women who have this same issue.
What I noticed with using the Lag Shot clubs is that after a few swings I was easily hitting the ball further with a much higher trajectory. I think this is going to be very beneficial to my game once the golf season starts back up again.
I went back to my clubs which now felt super light. It was so easy to swing and I continued to have a higher ball trajectory and was hitting the ball maybe 10 yards further.

As you can see on my wedge I was making contact a little low on the club face but it was centered. I wasn’t hitting on the toe or the hosel.
With the Lag Shot driver I did not hit it as well as I did the 7-iron and the wedge. It hink because of the higher weight and length of the club it may take me a little longer to get used to using it.
All in all I was very happy with the Lag Shot clubs and the changes that I saw in my ball flight. I think that with continued use and practice over the winter that I will be hitting the ball much higher with greater chance of stopping the ball on the green.
I have to say that it is really hard to know how far you hit the ball if you don’t know how far it will run. Also in terms of carrying a hazard being able to get increase height will help tremendously.
Update #2
Ok, after practicing and hitting balls with the Lag Shot just the one time at the driving range I played golf on the following Saturday.
Here is what I noticed…
My drives were going significantly further. The others in my foursome commented on how well I was hitting the ball. I was also getting a much higher ball flight. My ball was stopping closer to the pin and not rolling off the back of the green like usual.
I was actually giving myself more birdie opportunities. I still didn’t make the birdie putt…but that is a story for another blog post.
My Results Since November
Ok, I have not been to the driving range much this last year due to the pandemic. I have been warming up before my golf round with the Lagshot 7 iron.
My game (ball flight and distance) have gotten consistently better. I am hitting the ball higher and landing it softer on the green. I mentioned above that my gof shots tend to be very low and they certainly did not stop on the green prior to getting the lagshot.
I have also gained some distance. I notice it mostly on my irons.
MAJOR NEWS – UPDATE
I don’t know if you have checked out the website but they have now added both a Ladies version of the Lagshot as well as one for Juniors.
Women can still use the standard lagshot but may need to “choke up” on the club. The lady’s version is a little shorter and lighter. As you can see from one of my images above that I had to move my grip on the club because it was a little long for me.
Listen up…
